I like to keep up on what’s happening in the world as much as the next girl. But I’m busy. And I hate watching the 5 o’clock news. (I think it’s mostly because I really dislike the shape of one news anchor’s head here in town and it really is the only thing I pay attention to.) And newspapers are full of boredom. (And sales on laminate furniture and $5 hams.) So where does a girl go for her daily dose of current events?
The Skimm y’all.
The Skimm is a free daily newsletter that goes out at 5:59 am with “Reader’s Digest sized” versions of the most important stories of the day. Each newsletter is written by cofounders and roommates Carly Zakin and Danielle Weisberg, feature a brief synopsis of the day’s news, a little background on the issue, and what it all means, in a concise, non news-wordy way with a healthy dose of wit. Whether you’re looking for a source of on the go news before a dinner party or just want to keep up with current topics without being subjected to a pointy headed news anchor, the Skimm is for you. I’m totally obsessed and I’m pretty sure you will be too. To subscribe, visit their website here. You won’t regret it. (And you may finally figure out what that whole Syria thing is all about.)
