Want. Need. Wear. Read.

I have been loving James' wnwr posts on the Bleubird blog so much that it's inspired me to create one of my own.  Lately I've been swooning over natural materials & neutral colors, and am really trying to build a professional wardrobe for all seasons while maintaining my style.  Here what I'm wanting, needing, wearing, and reading this month...

Sponsor Spotlight: Brittany from Itsy Bitty Things

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

Have y'all clicked on over to check out the Itsy Bitty Things blog yet? I'll give you a moment to fall in love. Isn't it the cutest? (And aren't you so jealous of her new pixie cut? I die.) Brittany is my kind of lady, a vintage loving, fashion forward, creative whose sweet comments always make me smile. I'm SO thrilled to have her as a sponsor/new bestie. Here's a little bit about her...

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog:

I'm twenty four years old and have lived in New England my whole life. I work as an administrative assistant for a human rights group by day and fancy myself to be a thrift shopping, animal loving, day dreamer extraordinaire by night. I'm never brave enough to call myself an artist but I definitely have a creative soul and love to dabble in photography and painting. My blog, Itsy Bitty Things, began as a creative outlet and has quickly become my favorite new way to meet friends. I post about vintage finds, clothing, and my daily life.

2. Where do you hope to see yourself (and/or your blog) in 5 years?

My boyfriend and I have been house hunting for a little over a year now with very few prospects. In five years, I really hope we are finally settled into a great home! Other than that, I try to hold no expectations. If you'd asked me this question five years ago, I'm sure I would now laugh at my response! As far as my blog, I hope that I'm still meeting great people and reaching a wider audience!

3. What gets you inspired?

I find inspiration in everything. I can read a sentence in a book and be inspired to create an entire photo series or floor to ceiling painting from it. The one thing I have that always gets me out of a rut is the ocean. If I'm ever completely uninspired, a trip to the beach gets me straight again.

4. What are your goals for 2013?

I'm hoping to cut even more dairy out of my diet. I've been a vegetarian for almost nine years now, but can't quite call myself a vegan. I would love to move even further in that direction! I've also put myself on a spending budget to try to get my savings account a little fatter!

5.What's on your thrifting jackpot list? What's your favorite find?

Cliche as it is, I'm a Pyrex queen. Rare vintage Pyrex is my favorite thing to score at the flea market. I'm also big on collections so I'm always thrilled to find things like nutcrackers, nesting dolls, vintage fawn figurines, and 60's floral suitcases. My favorite thrifting find so far would have to be my $5 vintage black lace Betsey Johnson dress. I just about died when I glanced at the label on that one.

6. What's on your January playlist?

The Lumineers, Aerosmith, Rancid, Justin Bieber, David Bowie, Silverchair, & Stevie Wonder. I know, I know...could I be any more random?

7. If you had a spirit animal, what would it be?(And this is when Brittany thought, Ashley is crazy.  hehe)

This is hard! I asked my mom and boyfriend and they agreed that my spirit animal would be Bambi because he looks like he would be graceful but he's actually very awkward. Either that or a skittish little black cat. Just because I have one named Arwen and I feel like we're a lot alike.

8. What blogs are you currently loving?

I'm a total wedding buff so I never miss a post from Green Wedding Shoes, Rock 'n Roll Bride, or 100 Layer Cake.

Isn't she the greatest y'all?! You can read so much more at Brittany's blog, Itsy Bitty Things, here are a few of my favorite posts...

10 Things I Love About Me ♥ ♥ The Art of Thrifting ♥ ♥ Dear Santa, Christmas List

While you're clicking, you just HAVE to click on over to the Itsy Bitty Things shop, Brittany is always finding the cutest things. (Brit, I am completely lusting over those pink vintage drinking glasses you found. Please find more and sell them to me :)

Real Job Decor Wishlist

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

Now that I'm settling into my new job, i've been noticing that my new office is feeling a little stark.  Our offices for the Partnership are housed at a local university in their science center (which is my favorite place on university campuses anyways,) but my poor white walls are just a little sad.  Never fear y'all, Etsy is SO to the rescue.  Here are a few of the things I'm pining for...

*Fun science-y posters...
*Nature inspired desk accessories
*A killer bag to carry my laptop and notepads (that doubles as a purse)
*Pencils (because it's okay to make mistakes)

A (Literal) Trip Down Memory Lane...

Monday, January 21, 2013

As a child, my family loved taking trips to the river, canoeing, swimming and fishing as much as we could. One of Jonah and my favorite places to stop was at the old Riverdale Bridge swimming hole. We would hide in the waterfall, swing on the rope swings, pretending to run the old general store, and basically have a great time. Since our childhood, they had to replace the beautiful old metal and wooden bridge with a safer (and uglier,) concrete bridge and closed the area to swimmers, but it didn't stop me from taking a few photos on my way to work a few mornings ago. I love how the river looks on a cool morning with the steam and mists rising in the air. It's one of my favorite spots to sneak off to and think. What spots do you love to visit from your childhood? xoxo Fearsy

Copper Run

Wednesday, January 16, 2013

A few weeks back for my birthday, the fam and I trekked out to the Copper Run Distillery, the first legal distillery in the Ozark Mountains since the prohibition.  My friend Kaston Guffy (of My Politic,) was playing a little show with his pals Barak Hill & Jody Biyleu (formerly of Big Smith) and as a moonshine loving family, (we make SMALL batches of moonshine, the totally legal kind :) we jumped at the opportunity to check it all out.  WHAT a cool little place.  In addition to moonshine, they make rum & whiskey, and give full tours of their distilling operations.  They also are big supporters of live music and have shows weekly.  Here's a little peek at our trip, and a video of Kaston playing one of my favorite of My Politic's songs, Ghost. (They're working on a new album y'all, I'll keep you updated!) And yes, that is a grape soda I'm drinking, I was a *wee* bit hungover from my birthday adventures the night before.  I'm not as young as I once was CLEARLY.  But it was delicious (and locally made. woot!)  xoxo Fearsy

Making Mail

Tuesday, January 15, 2013

I received the most awesome thing in the mail yesterday.  A while back, I'd stumbled upon a tumblr by Amber Esner, simply entitled Making Mail.  Her project was simple, send her your address and she'd send you a handmade letter/card/lovely little piece.  I'd all but forgotten about signing up when I see this oddly shaped letter addressed to me in the mailbox! (Yes, I still get excited about receiving any mail.  ANY mail. I am a child.)  Inside was a little note & handmade items...and it totally MADE MY DAY.  I'd been having the worst day dealing with the loss of our oldest lab, Sugar this weekend, so the package was extra-specially-uplifting. Thank you Amber for bringing a little bit of sunshine into my day!

I can't wait to create something to send back, hey, maybe I'll have a new pen pal! (I love pen pals. I wish people still did it.)  If you'd like to receive a hand-written dose of wonderful-ness, check out Amber's blog & sign up! While you're there, check out her archives, she's made SO many lovely pieces of mail.  xoxo Fearsy
