In search of inspiration

For many of you who know me, you know that I have been having a bit of a "crisis of self" following receiving my master’s degree.  I was completely burnt out on the field that I'd just spent years becoming an expert in (and thousands of dollars pursuing,) and was feeling very adrift and confused at the place I was in my life versus the idea of where I thought I should be in my life.  Probably not-so-coincidentally, it also marked right around the same time that I started this blog.  I was seeking out a new outlet for my energy and interests, and having admired so many other bloggers and their guts to really pursue “living creatively” as a full time job.  (something that I’ve secretly wanted for a long time now, but have felt that I was too far down a different track to turn around now.)

I’ve always been a great dabbler of arts, primarily painting and sewing, and my initial idea for this blog was to be something that predominantly focused on my love of creating things, so it’s almost embarrassing to say that lately, I’ve been feeling completely uninspired.  I used to LOVE painting especially, and had experimented with different types of painting and art, but suddenly I just lost the ability to crank out ANYTHING worthwhile.  I had all of these ideas running through my head for projects but when the time came to actually produce I would just stare at the canvas and eventually resign myself to bad TV.

Fast forward to the past week and my dear friend Emilie’s birthday.  Her best friend Kaitlin, (possibly the most adorable and creative person I’ve ever met,) and I have been working on putting together a scrap book for the celebration, (something of a tradition in Missouri,) and while looking at all of Kaitlin’s adorable pages, something happened.  Suddenly I felt completely inspired to create again.  (Probably not a scrapbook page in the near future, 21 pages is a LOT to crank out in a couple of days… but something.)  I’ve been spending the last couple of weeks seeking out inspiration, searching artists and bloggers who inspire me, clipping pages from magazines, listening to music, really anything and everything to get me back into the swing of things.  I’m ready to pick up a paintbrush, some scissors, and miles of felt and get to work, and let me tell you, it feels good. Real good.

And, exciting news, I’ve got this big idea for a series of projects that I’m SO inspired by that I can’t stop smiling. I can't wait to share it with you all!  I'm determined to start painting and sewing and creating again, I miss it so much!  I'd also love any idea and suggestions from you all on different ways that you stay inspired and creative, I appreciate you all so much!
xoxo Fearsy
