Craftgasm: it's beginning

Tuesday, November 08, 2011

I don't know about y'all, but I am the queen of dropping the line "I can totally make that." I have over committed myself to so many projects in the past year it's crazy. As a general rule, I tend to eventually follow through with the crafty creations, but it takes me some time. Previously, when living in Springvegas, I had plenty of room to store all of my crafty ambitions, however upon my move to Boston, especially since I moved to the North End (a.k.a. smallest living spaces ever,) I am seriously lacking in room.

With that in mind, I set to finishing some of these projects on top of preparing for all of my handmade gifts for the season. I made a list, I checked it twice, and got really excited about all of the homemade goodies I was about to create! First thing first, I laid out my fabrics and designated which I would use for different projects, which you can see below. (I get really excited to see all of my fabric possibilities, it's so inspiring!)

For craftgasm night one, I finally got around to finishing some wall art for miss Emilie, I've been meaning to complete it for FOREVER, but hey inspiration sometimes takes time!  I originally had intentions of painting the whole thing but couldn't seem to paint the words in a manner to my liking, resulting in approximately 12 cover up layers when I messed up. Finally, in a stroke of brilliance, I decided to embroider the quote directly on the painting, first by writing out the quote on paper, then taping it to the canvas and used a pushpin to create the holes for the embroidery. I'm pretty happy with how it came out, even if my fingers are a little tender from all that stitching! (Note to self, need thimble.)

*If you're wondering, the quote is from a Bob Dylan song, With God On Our Side.

Tonight I'm planning on starting on the many pillows I've been commissioned to make, I'll keep you updated!
What projects are you excited to start this fall?
